Letter to Green Day
It feels ludicrous to write this because I know it will probably never be read by the band, but I’m sure every fan feels that way. But if one of you do happen to find this letter, understand I am not just some crazy fan girl that's out looking for a response, an autograph, or a photo op. I am a fellow musician and admire the band for so many reasons other than their fame.
I wanted to tell the band that the show in North Carolina this weekend was out of this world. It was so fucking amazing! I seriously don't think anyone or anything could ever top it. Everyone was so fierce and full of energy! The pyrotechnics and lighting effects were incredible and synched perfectly to the music! Is there anything you guys can't do?
In the middle of the concert, tears started rolling out my face. Wtf? I don't even know where they came from! Is this something that begins to happen to us as old age sets in or is this just a side effect Green Day has on the human body. I mean, I'm thirty something and it could be that midlife crisis junk people talk about but I've never been to a Green Day concert before so I don't know if happens to everyone at least once? But seriously, when those flames rolled out and the warmth hit my face it created a feeling that was truly indescribable. Don't worry, I quickly wiped those tears away so no one would think I was crazy! Who the hell cries at a concert? *looks at self in the mirror* But anyway, I swear I'm not over exaggerating, it was quite a moving experience for me to say the least.
I'm pretty sure you will go down in history as some of the most powerful… influential musicians ever! You can bet your sweet ass people will be talking about y'all for centuries because I haven't shut up for days! The concert totally blew my mind and I can't quit talking about it. I'm sure my friends are beyond sick of hearing me brag about the Green Day concert but there is nothing that could compare to seeing y'all play live.
Billie Joe... The way you command the audience is captivating. You say jump and everyone is like how high! At first I was like, these people think this mother fucker is god. Haha, and then I said to myself... no doubt he has a "hollier than thou" attitude from all those followers but damn did I find out. Billie... can I just say that you are one hell of a creature?! You were adjusting the strap on guitar for one of the boys you invited on stage when all of a sudden the other boy that was also invited on stage started playing the bass. You quickly looked his direction and passed a genuine look of amazement. You then looked at the crowd and pointed to the kid as if to say "can you believe this kid?". It was almost as if he caught you off guard. Shortly after this moment I noticed Mike misstep behind you and fall and you were so quick to offer him your hand. I bet nobody even noticed it because it all happened so fast, but I saw the genuine concern in your response! key word here: genuine! You can't fake that shit and I saw it in you. You have a big heart and I bet you are a big ol' teddy bear underneath it all. When you started talking about the ugly politics and how everyone left the hate at the gate, I said to myself now there is a man who is down to earth and above us all at the same time. You have the power to control the crowds and you could easily mislead them but you stand up for what is right. You use your platform to preach a message of love. You don't back down from opposition and do not tolerate injustice. Your message is loud and clear. The world is lucky to have someone like you that speaks out about the things that matter the most. You are a leader! You are a hero! My hero! Can you run for president already? Joking, we'd all miss you way too much in the music world! But I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone play the strings the way that you did! I couldn’t take my eyes off your hands. So fast and so precise! I will never forget seeing you play live.
Tre Cool you are a fucking rockstar! I have sat down to the drums a few times and each time I'm like how can anyone be that quick and coordinated. I mean obviously practice plays a part but I truly believe that it has to be born inside of someone. I can play a few beats myself but that would be a comedy for you to watch. I loved seeing you toss your drumsticks into the air and I got a kick out of your response when the kid sat down in your seat and you raised your hands and shrugged your shoulders as if "well what do I do now? guess there’s nothing for me to do anymore” I captured your reaction in a video on my iPhone. It was too cool! That little kid will remember that the rest of his life and I’m thankful that musicians like you inspire the younger generation during a time when there is so much negativity in our society.
Mike where do I even begin? Bass players have always intrigued me! My eyes always seem to drift over to the bass player in any band and I love to watch them in their element. It's like they exit reality and enter a whole other dimension. It was so nice to see you in your element and I feel lucky to have been there. I saw the love flow out of you into the music. You too shared the spotlight and helped make a little kid's dreams come true and that totally made my night! Awesome bounce back by the way! Tell Billie I said to stay out of the damn way! *laughs*
Overall, I just wanted to let each of you know that you are all equally awesome in my book. I know the front man in any band may lead the crowd but he'd be nothing without the others standing behind him. I love what each one of you contribute to the band. So many bands split over time but you have chosen to stick together through thick and thin! That is true dedication and hard work that doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated. You are the epitome of awesome and I admire each of you so very much. I know your life isn't without struggle as everyone fights their own battles, but I greatly admire the strength and resilience that the band has shown over the past thirty years.
Please tell the other musicians that share the stage with you but don't get as much of the spotlight that the are 100 in my book! The stage crew also deserves a nice pat on the back too! The whole show was flawless and unforgettable! It was teamwork at it's finest! Thank you for a once in a lifetime opportunity! From a fellow musician, please don’t ever stop playing! I wish you much continued success in future and cannot wait to see what else you create.
Much Love & Respect,
